Indonesia Introduces Implementing Regulation on Child Protection in Electronic Systems, including Mandatory Under-16 Accounts Deactivation

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (MOCD) has issued MOCD Regulation No. 9 of 2026, implementing Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection.

Among its key provisions, accounts belonging to users under the age of 16 must be deactivated on high-risk products, services, and features, including social media and online networking platforms.
The regulation also introduces several obligations for Electronic System Providers (ESPs) whose products, services, or features are used by, or may be accessed by, children.
